Sendarian Clothing

Sendarian clothing (the clothing worn by the main cast) is not specific enough for me to be able to do any historical research into an era it may have been based on. Sendarian clothing instead, seems to be loosely based on the clothing worn in early medieval Europe. Most notably, the characters are said to have worn hose with boots and a tunic/shoulder cape and/or hood (men) and women are said to have worn gowns and (sometimes) caps, (Polgara is never described as wearing a cap). Women's clothing is described with less specifics.

Sendaria is a continant/country born of mixed backgrounds and places so this is why I'm focusing on european clothing rather than just, for example, English.

Their income and work is largely farming. Sendaria is described as being mostly fields/farms and farm land so any clothing would have to be practical.

Most Sendarian's are described as wearing brown but Polgara and Begarath are also said to be seen wearing blue.

Natual dyes in medieval Europe consisted of the colours:

red
blue
violet
crimson
purple
yellow
green
brown

Blue green yellow red black and brown were colours easily accesable to farmers because the colours could be derived from plants.

Brown: Iron and pitch
Red: Chalk, brazilwood, lime, gum (red involved a lengthy dying process so was likely to be less common)
Green: verdigris
Yellow: Orpiment, alum, lime
Blue: Ground lapis lazuli and lime

- Bright colours were deemed unsuitable for peasant class (considered not humble and engendered a feeling of pride).

(NOTE: Sendarians, known to be very practical, would avoid bright colours.)

- Greys browns and muted blues were seen as suitable for the lower class.

(NOTE: This would make sense, as I have only ever heard descriptions of Sendarians wearing blues or Browns. Garion's outfit is described as all brown.)

Below are some inspiration boards of medieval inspired fashion. Some more realistic some less so. Because there is no specific time period for Belgariad as it is fantasy, liberties can be taken. I would like to base the clothing somewhat in fact, however.
