Feedback for More Specific Costume Designs for Polgara

Polgara Costume Design Ideas - Feedback:

·         Positive reaction costumes: 1, 2, 3, 7, 8, 13, 14, 15, 19, 20 - They all have a shared element of looking period specific, appealing without being ostentatious or showy, fitting in with Polgara taking pride in her appearance, but living incognito on a farm.
(Outright favourites: 1, 2, 8, 15, 19)

·         Less positive reaction costumes: 5, 10, 11, 12, 16, 17, 18 - Again, though still period specific, these outfits all seem a little too fashionable and expensive-looking to be the outfit of a farmhouse cook. Potentially usable for later in then book/series when Polgara begins wearing fancier outfits, but not as initial costumes.

·         Additionally, 16, 17 and 18 seem to have an almost oriental appearance to them, which doesn't seem fitting with the general theme of either her costume or the novel as a whole.

·         The crosslaced bodice on 1, 3 and 8 is a really nice look, although I'm particularly drawn to the wider, slightly messier ties on 1, they're just quite visually appealling, plus they seem to fit in with the idea she's busy and pre-occupied with her duties as head cook on Faldor's farm and as Garion's surrogate parent.

·         I prefer the rounded neck on the dresses, rather than the more v-shaped examples (such as 6, 14, 16, 17, 18) or the slightly more elaborate necklines (such as 5, 10, 11, 12, 17), the theme of the dress would seem to require a more modest look to it, such as the aforementioned rounded neckline.

·         I love the apron's on 19 and 20, they're a really nice way of tying in her role as a head-cook on Faldor's farm, without being overly showy or obvious. I prefer the full over-shoulder apron of 20, but I don't like the leaf-ties around the waist. Instead I think the plain waist tie of 19 would be a simpler, yet equally effective, look.

·         Following on from the previous point about waist ties on the apron, I like the longer belts from designs such as 2, 7 and 15. Again, it's a visually pleasing feature without being ostentatious or at odds with the simpler dress designs I prefer for the character.

·         In terms of sleeves, I like the half sleeves of examples such as 2, 6, 14, 15, 16 and 19, especially with the differently coloured lower arms of 2, 6, 14 and 15. Additionally, I also like the puffed sleeves of 8 and 12, which could work well with as a lower sleeve variation.

·         I don't like the more billowy or daggered sleeves of designs like 5, 10, 17 and 18, again they seem a bit too showy and impractical for a farm cook, especially the ones where the sleeves hang below the hands. Potentially good for her later outfits, but not for her initial farm outfit.

·         I like the skirts on 2 and 3, where the skirt is slightly raised in one place, with an underlayer. It just adds a little bit extra to the skirt visually for me, although I'm not enitrely certain if it would fit in with the farm-cook aesthetic if added, it'd have to be something I saw properly before I could make up my mind.
